Spy x Family

Information
Plot
Corrupt politicians, frenzied nationalists, and other warmongering forces constantly jeopardize the thin veneer of peace between neighbouring countries Ostania and Westalis. In spite of their plots, renowned spy and master of disguise "Twilight" fulfils dangerous missions one after another in the hope that no child will have to experience the horrors of war.
In the bustling Ostanian city of Berlint, Twilight dons the alias of "Loid Forger," an esteemed psychiatrist. However, his true intention is to gather intelligence on prominent politician Donovan Desmond, who only appears rarely in public at his sons' school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Enlisting the help of unmarried city hall clerk Yor Briar to act as his wife and adopting the curious six-year-old orphan Anya as his daughter, Loid enacts his master plan. He will enroll Anya in Eden Academy, where Loid hopes she will excel and give him the opportunity to meet Donovan without arousing suspicion.
Unfortunately for Loid, even a man of his talents has trouble playing the figure of a loving father and husband. And just like Loid is hiding his true identity, Yor—who is an underground assassin known as "Thorn Princess"—and Anya—an esper who can read people's minds—have no plans to disclose their own secrets either. Although this picture-perfect family is founded on deception, the Forgers gradually come to understand that the love they share for one another trumps all else.
Review
Such a fun anime! On the outside they are a seemingly normal family, but each of them have secrets they keep from each other. Forger is a secret agent, Yor is an assassin and Anya is a telepath!
Characters – 5/5
Agent Twilight is a little on the stoic side at first but he definitely has a charming element to him – his ability to fight and take out bad guys is a plus of course. Seeing him grow to care for his adopted daughter and pretend wife is so endearing to watch as a viewer. I just love his simple mission to “create a world where kids don’t need to cry,” it really makes him such a loveable protagonist.
Yor is such a sweet lady at first, but once you see her in her secret line of work – wowza, she’s not to be messed with! That duality is crazy fun to watch. Seeing her gentle and clutzy nature when around her ‘family’ and the almost psycho side of her is almost jarring, but in the best way.
Yor and Forger may have gotten together out of convenience, but it’s entertaining to watch their relationship flourish and their dynamic together.
Of course I cannot forget the cute Anya!! She is adorable and absolutely hilarious. I love that she can read everyone’s thoughts and that her ‘parents’ have no idea. It adds that element of comedy in the show – especially when she tries to help her dad’s mission but flops every time! Her dynamic with the parents is so endearing to watch and her relationship with other kids at school is hilarious.
Plot – 4/5
Okay, so the plot is pretty simple. I appreciate that as it comes with all these fun antics that Anya gets into when trying to get close to the target’s son. It’s probably clear that I feel like the characters carry the show. I personally have always been someone who enjoys shows for the characters more so than the plot. This is a prime example of a series that fulfils that!
I just love Spy x Family, it’s a fun, wholesome and super entertaining show and I am looking forward to season 2!
